Question: Should I simply get the fastest frequency of memory modules for my laptop and not worry about their timings?

Yes, unless you wish to gain the "up to" 5% additional performance boost offered by modules validated to run at faster memory timings. Memory timings only contribute so much to the actual end performance of the laptop memory module therefore laptop. It's the memory technology (i.e. DDR, DDR2, DDR3 etc.) and the frequency (i.e. 1066MHz effective) that takes priority as far as performance goes. For this reason, it's thus much more important to simply buy the fastest memory modules your laptop supports! Should you decide otherwise you will need to accept that memory modules supporting lower memory timings sell at a premium.
